Seithur

My village Seithur is situated in the foothills of the mountain Western Ghats Chaturagiri  (Tenkasi National highway) near Rajapalayam of Virudhunagar district of Tamilnadu, India. It is 8km from Rajapalayam. Rajapalayam is a small town, situated on Madurai-Tenkasi national highway.

Seithur Temples

Veyulu kantha vinayagar (@) Kootai Vinayagar:
The temple Veyulu Kantha Vinayagar is located in seithur, tenkasi highway. This Ganesha is very powerful God. People of this area do not start any important job without getting permission from this Lord Ganesha (Veyulu Kantha Vinayagar).
Many of them will call this god as Kootai Pillayar. Every year there is a very grand Ganesha Chathurthi festival conducted by all peoples. On that day the temple committee will prepare pongal, sundal, muppalam. Muppalam is made up of mango, jackfruit, banana and dates.  These three prasathams are later equally divided among all the house of the village.

Arulmigu Thirukanneswarar Temple:
Seithur is famous for its ancient Lord Siva Temple also called as Arulmigu Thirukanneswarar temple.  In the tamil month of Karthigai there is a 11 day festival during KanthaSasti as like they celebrate in Thiruchendur.

Ayyanar, Kali Temple:
There is a famous Ayyanar temple and Kali Amman temple in the foothills of the mountain. The temple is around 4kms from Seithur towards the mountain. Daily bus services is available to this temple. Every year there is a grand festival in the Ayyanar, Kali Amman temple, in the month of May conducted by all peoples. On that day they prepare pongal and distribute to all peoples. Several goats are also sacrificed.

Seithur Mariamman Temple and Yekkala Devi Amman Temple:
There are a quite a few temples here and Pookuli Masi festival of Seithur Mariamman temple and Seithur Yekkala Devi Amman temple is very famous for Pookuli festival. These two Amman temples are about more than 300 years old.

Seithur Mariamman temple is located at the North East entrance of the village  and Seithur Yekkala Devi amman temple is located at the  South West entrance of this village.

The idols of Mariamman and Yekkala Devi Amman is worshipped by all the people in and around Seithur and people from villages flock here with their offerings to their deity. These temple festival is for 10 days.

There is a flower chariot festival on 7th day and 9th day of the festival and on that day all the people in Seithur come out to offer flowers, coconut, banana and Agarbathi, karpuram to the deity and the streets also get decorated with flowers.

On the 9th day of the festival they will made a fire pit which is about 12 feet in length and is filled with burning charcoal and all devotees walk through the pit chanting the Amman’s name.

On the 10th day they will prepare rice pongal and distribute to all peoples.

The photos and remaining part will be continued sooner.
